Meditation, to those who practice, is experienced simply. Yoga teaches that through commitment to stilling the mind through concentration, consciousness shifts into a meditative state. This state is characterized by a sense of well-being and clear, higher thought. Brainwaves move from beta to alpha or even theta waves which indicates a deep internal calm. Regular practice of meditation gradually shifts our relationship to stress, our loved ones, and the outer world. When we meditate regularly, we approach life from a place of inner peace.
"With meditation I feel much more a part of this world and I enjoy life so much more!" ~Melissa M.
Through extensive research over decades and across multiple respected sources, YogaLife Director and author Dr. Bob Butera, PhD applied specific criteria and group all practices of meditation into six basics types. It is understood that based on experience, learning style, and life circumstances, we each find some of these types effective in holding the mind in concentration while other types are do not work well. It is normal for the mind to wander during meditation, what's important is the attitude of nonattachment and the constant practice of bringing the mind back to focus.
