Yoga Therapy
Yoga is an integrative system, unifying the body, mind, and spirit. The impacts of mental health issues are also physical, emotional, and spiritual. What this means is that everything thought and feeling that we have has a corresponding reaction in the body. Considering this parallel, yoga is an excellent healing tool. Yoga therapy helps people dealing with the affects of depression, eating disorders, anxiety, trauma, and abuse. A wealth of scientific research indicates that regular yoga practice decreases many of the associated physiological symptoms.
The relaxation and awareness brought about by yoga practice can help you become more aware of the relationship between your unconscious emotions, physical sensations, patterns, and beliefs. Yogic methods teaches you to notice your on-going needs and chosen responses. Soon you may begin taking greater control of your life, making better choices, and feeling better about yourself.
Yoga therapy sessions are conducted one-on-one and are directed by your intentions and goals. The yoga therapist draws on all aspects of yoga, as appropriate, to contribute to your mental and physical healing and the maintenance of your overall wellness. You are given an individual yoga therapy plan to take home and apply to your daily life. These plans usually involve recommended postures, mental exercises, breathing skills, and visualization and relaxation techniques. When we are dedicated to changing our experiences, yoga is truly a healing path.
