Oct. 9, 2014: "Words cannot express how joyous I felt tonight at Welkin Yogalife-Institute. Embarking upon my journey into 500 hour teacher training couldn't feel more right in my heart at this time. When you are on the right path no matter how much you veer off you end up back on if you continue to persevere and honour your truth and love of the journey just as it is. Namaste." ~ Sheryl F.

Students joining the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy training do so for a variety of reasons.  Many are yoga teachers looking for a 500 hour certification (Yoga Alliance registered) to both guide their personal and professional growth while honing their abilities to work in a wider variety of populations and settings. Others are professionals – from doctors and nurses to physical therapists and personal trainers, psychologists and nutritionists – who are aware of the holes in the current healthcare model and are seeking new ideas to enhance their current approaches. And a large portion of students are looking for a new profession, and start the program intent on pursuing the 1000 hours of training offered by the full program. In June 2014, the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy program at YogaLife was announced as one of the first programs in the world to be certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

"The program is very practical and uses experiential learning – case studies, class discussions and extensive self study as well as lots of reading. I feel very lucky to be able to learn from such knowledgable teachers who creatively bring yogic wisdom to help alleviate suffering in a new way." -Alice B.

There’s no denying that the modern world is in a state of health crisis. As many great minds work toward evolving the current system of patient care, you as a certified Comprehensive Yoga Therapist will be in a unique position to pick up where allopathic medicine leaves off: empowering clients to augment their current care model with an exploration and resolution of the deeper lifestyle issues that lie at the root of many disease conditions.

“True to the title, this training has been comprehensive and compassionate; providing me with new resources, techniques, and perspective on my one-to-one work with yoga students. In just a few short months, I feel a new sense of clarity about the purpose and scope of yoga therapy and my role as a yoga therapist." - Michelle W.

Comprehensive Yoga Therapy is taught by a dynamic team of high-level professionals in the field of Yoga Therapy. In addition to its Ontario training facility, the program is offered in Philadelphia, PA, Exeter, NH, and Vienna, VA. All of the teachers have an experiential background in Classical Yoga Therapy, and bring with them the perspectives from their own personal professions. From PhDs in yoga and physical therapy to veteran ERYT500 teachers, osteopaths, nutritionists, and social workers, the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy instructional team is by its very nature a holistic entity!

"I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone searching for a healthier way to live and/or have a desire to share the benefits of the Yoga Lifestyle with others." - Jake M.

What is Unique about Comprehensive Yoga Therapy?

The Comprehensive Yoga Therapy program at Welkin YogaLife views each aspect of the human experience as having the potential to be a source of healing and inspiration. Fragmentation and stress is universal, yet each individual experiences stress as well as health & healing very differently. This program aims to assess and understand the whole person with an eye towards cultivating the Yogic approach of embracing the many different and interrelated levels on which healing can occur – energetic, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. While a human being may not always be able to control pain or the outcome of the healing process, Yoga teaches that each individual may overcome the resistance to pain or suffering.

Speak to Erin about CYTT

This program intends to shift the current cultural healthcare perspective from the passive patient model to a more active model where the patient is a student of their own processes and becomes empowered to be a proactive participant in their own healing. The course does not intend to make the Yoga Therapist into a Doctor, Psychologist, Physical Therapist or other therapeutic professional who deals with acute disease conditions. In this model, the Yoga Therapist works with other medical and healing professionals as a supporting expert offering clients a highly personalized holistic health and lifestyle plan along with stress management tools that suit their individual situation and needs.

"Yoga Therapy, as taught at the Yoga Life Institute, can make a significant impact on the future of health care.” – Steve G.

All of Welkin YogaLife Institute's training programs are based on the work of The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, India. Considered to be the oldest organized yoga centre in the world, they were the first to open their doors to the general householder public in 1917. Under the guidance of founder Shri Yogendra, The Yoga Institute has worked with the medical community in India researching the therapeutic benefits of yoga since its inception and offered Yoga Therapy programs for the general public for more than 90 years. They continue to be a leader in the field of yoga therapy. The key foundational principles of psychology and spirituality, lifestyle and philosophy, meditation and psychosomatic practices, healthy routines and yoga hygiene, yoga postures and breathing exercises offer a strong and scientifically proven approach for creating and/or maintaining a Healthy Yoga Lifestyle.

"Yoga therapy is a service that will be of great value to the world, and I feel that program has been given all the tools I need to excel at it. I am truly grateful for the entire learning experience.” – Marybeth L.
